Centrica has launched a cheaper alternative to British Gas after trialing the new service to thousands of customers.
British Gas Evolve is the new name and brand from the firm, which will be offering a low cost, digital and ‘hassle free’ residential energy supply.
The provider will be launching to a limited number of customers through comparison website, Go Compare, with a full launch planned later this year.
It says its ambition is to be the largest energy supplier in Britain for residential and small businesses but despite this, claims it will not be competing with its core British Gas brand.
Centrica is launching a new brand, British Gas Evolve, a cheaper version of the Big Six firm
Centrica has been trialling the new service under BG Lite, which now supplies almost 60,000 business sites, and BGX, which supplies 17,000 residential customers.
British Gas Lite is a fixed price gas and electricity service for small businesses while British Gas X was the original name for Evolve.
Evolve will provide customers with 100 per cent renewable electricity, unlike British Gas, which offers both renewable and energy from other sources.
The name Evolve was chosen as Centrica said it represents the values and ambitions of the new brand but still gives customers the reassurance that it is from British Gas.
It added that, in light of many challenger brands ceasing trading in recent years, customers of British Gas Evolve can have peace of mind that the service comes from a company that is financially resilient.
Peter Simon, managing director of British Gas Evolve, said: ‘We will be launching British Gas Evolve to a limited number of customers next week with a full launch planned later in the year.
‘Our aim is to offer residential customers a low cost and reliable service from a trusted provider.
‘We have taken what we know works from disrupter brands and combined it with our vast experience in the energy market to create a new customer offer to help Centrica grow.’
