Pete ‘The Essex Pirate’ Wicks and James ‘Lockie’ Lock are set to swap The Sugar Hut for spandex – as the pair announce they are to become Lucha Libre wrestlers for a new tequila campaign.

Inspired by the dramatic transformations that take place during Mexico’s Day of the Dead festival (from elaborate makeup and costumes to streets lined with marigolds) Mexican tequila Jose Cuervo challenged Pete and Lockie to undergo a bold transformation of their own.1 of 6 -
And with the two having such competitive natures, there was only one transformation that made sense: donning tight-fitting wrestling outfits and masks, wearing their underwear on the outside and stepping into the ring.2 of 6 -
Pete Wicks said, “He might be tall but he’s about as agile as a tree is Lockie. I’m going to run so many rings around him that he’ll think he’s wrestling a hundred Petes and he’ll melt like the melt that he is in the face of my red-hot moves. Get ready Lockie: the pirate’s coming to plunder.”3 of 6 -
Lockie added, ‘Forget The Rock, meet The Lock! Anyone that sees me in this get-up will know I was born to wear it. Half pint Pete won’t stand a chance.”4 of 6 -
To prepare for their transformation – from reality TV darlings to fearsome luchadores – They trained at one of the most respected wrestling organisations to be found anywhere between Mexico City and Billericay: the London School of Lucha Libre.5 of 6 -
Although Pete and Lockie aren’t short of banter, they’ll need more to their verbal arsenal to impress eagle-eyed wrestling fans. So, alongside learning a range of classic wrestling moves, the duo will be spending time getting their venomous vocabulary is up to scratch and mastering the wrestling tradition of smack talk. To follow their journey, go to the Jose Cuervo UK Instagram page (@josecuervouk). Pete and Lockie will be seen in the ring on the evening of the 29th of October.6 of 6
